Welcome
We live in a world that denies emotional needs. The culture, society, social media, the organisation of labour, the economy, education: the entire system creates expectations that make us feel wrong in being human. As nature is under attack, so is the ecology of our psyche. All this has precise historical and relational reasons, and in these conditions one might even say that it is healthier to feel unwell than well.
My framework
My framework is grounded in the recognition of human emotional needs which, encoded in Biology, have guided and protected the survival and development of our species. Biologically-encoded emotional needs support, inform, and foster our relationship to others, on whom, as a species, we depend on to survive and thrive.
When these emotional needs are not met, trauma happens. Trauma means "wound" but also "rupture". When trauma happens, in fact, a rupture of the psychic space-time takes place so to speak, leaving behind a little part of Self who remains stuck, frozen, in the time of trauma, on an endless repeat.
That part needs the support of a new, secure, relationship to come out and heal, otherwise it'll find every possible way to take us back there, to the time of trauma, talking through symptoms and re-enactments and sometimes immense emotional pain, thwarting our ability to grow, thrive and express our real self in the present.
About me
My name is Lucia Mieli and after a first degree in the Arts, I obtained a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and trained in Attachment-based psychotherapy in London. I choose this framework since I felt that Attachment theory was the only approach that had historically recognised the exquisitely relational nature of human beings. After my return to Italy I continued my studies achieving a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. Over the years, I developed an integrative framework grounded in the recognition of the choral quality of the Self, with each part beholding experiences, emotions, goals and functions key to the functioning of the person. Internal Family System theory, object relations, trauma-based psychodynamic psychotherapy, neurobiology, perinatal and developmental psychology are all important parts of my work.
I've been living and working in Bruneck since 2023. I work face-to-face and online, in English and Italian, while working on my German and Dialect!
Individual support
The ethical use of an attachment relationship to foster healing, integration, growth and thriving
Perinatal Psychology
Understanding and supporting the emotional journey of pregnancy, child birth, of the first 1000 days, to facilitate a healthy pregnancy, delivery, a secure attachment and foster a harmonious development for the little one and the family
Parenting Support
Despite the overwhelming availability of information, very little is known about the emotional attitudes, encoded in Biology, drawn by nature to support our children' survival, security and creativity.
Couple support
Human beings literally cannot exist outside emotional relationships, but sometimes we may unknowingly recreate cages that are familiar to us. Working together it may be possible to break vicious circuits that prevent us from meeting and thriving, as individuals and as a couple.
